First Encounter: "The Wish." Cordelia's grief over Xander and burning-of-his-pictures ritual accidentally summons Anyanka, the patron demon of scorned women. Anyanka appears in the guise of Anya, a new student to Sunnydale who is the embodiment of who Cordelia used to be. Anya tricks Cordelia into making a wish for vengeance, a wish that creates an alternate Sunnydale.

Relationship Map: When Giles takes Anya's power-necklace, the alternate-Sunnydale is destroyed and with it people's memories of the event. It is possible that Cordelia has no knowledge of what Anya tried to use Cordelia for.

Character Reflection: Like Cordelia, Anya often makes blunt, socially-inappropriate comments. Cordelia's commentaries' social-inappropriateness tend to derive from the direct, non-sugar coated wording. In contrast, Anya's inappropriate comments tend to revolve around taboo topics, primarily sex. Nevertheless, people have speculated that Anya is a Cordelia-replacement for both the show and Xander.
