Jonathan Levinson Humble Beginnings: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Danny Strong appeared multiple times throughout the first seasons of Buffy, largely as an extra before earning the name Jonathan and becoming entwined in several subplots.
The character of course recieved his own episode, with the universe rewritten to feature him as a central figure, but even afterward the character proved pivotal well into the final season as a recurring avatar of The First, having been killed by best friend Andrew. - Citation :

Harmony Kendall Humble Beginnings: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Mercedes McNab holds the distinction of the longest run in the entire Whedonverse, present in Buffy's pilot as an unnamed member of Cordelia's clique, and closing out the final episode of Angel as a series regular.
From vapid high-schooler to vapid vampire, the character has even gone on to have central roles in the eighth season comics. - Citation :
Spike Humble Beginnings: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The good villains never really die. That's why the original scripts called for Spike to meet his end several episodes in, but the character was ultimately given a reprieve on account of the reception James Marsters recieved as the punky blonde vampire.
Soon Spike came to dominate both Buffy's latter four seasons, and even the final season of Angel, to the point where Marsters jokes about how much Joss Whedon hates him. Source | |
