- 1. I think I would let Dawn die in 'The Gift'.
Dawn is a difficult character, she will always be the little sister and she is not a character which makes a large difference. She is just there, lacks real character arcs and often functions as a tool to push Buffy's story forward instead of being an important character on her own. Her death would result in a very dark time for Buffy, so season 6 wouldn't change too much. Besides we wouldn't have the unlogical 'same blood' writers fiat and I prefer to have characters stay dead after they had an epic goodbye.
2. Let Xander and Anya marry. Or another couple, it doesn't matter to me. Anya is hardly my favorite character. But it would be refreshing to see at least one happy couple on the show. In general, I would try to convince the other writers that not ever characer has to be miserable in a good tv show.
3. Not ending every season with an apocalypse. In some cases it just didn't make sense. Some big bads were scary enough to be a big bad without the threat of destroying the earth in may. vampmogs: - Citation :
- 1. Scrap the Knights of Byzantium;
I really don't think they contributed anything to S5 so they seem like a really unnecessary addition to the story line. I also thought they kind of clashed with the Glory story line as they seemed very different tonally, so they were kind of a very awkward idea.
2. No trigger story line in S7; I really don't think the writers thought this one through at all. One of the big story lines in S7 was Buffy's faith in Spike that he "could be a better man" and this was rewarded in a pretty beautiful fashion during Chosen when he sacrifices himself for the world. I actually really love that story line and find it very inspirational and moving, and I don't ship them at all at this point. But then they introduce this trigger story line that makes Spike a danger to everybody but the problem is that it strips him off his freewill, which makes Buffy's insistence that he can be a good person kind of irrelevant and, at times, it makes her look really negligent and/or foolish. It would have worked far better if they just had Spike be really vulnerable after first getting his soul back and it made him more susceptible to The First corrupting him. If he had total freewill when he was tempted to do something bad then Buffy's faith in him would have been poignant.
3. Devote a whole episode to the trauma of slaying Seriously, I think Buffy's arc is pretty great and I think it makes a lot of sense that she developed like she did. However, I think a lot of fans don't fully appreciate the kind of effect slaying would have on a person, especially someone as young as Buffy when she started. Sometimes I blame this on fandom but I do think the show sometimes trivialized how traumatic it must have been for Buffy to go and fight for her life every night. I would have loved an episode where we follow Buffy on a regular patrol and see how a near death experience really shook her and how she tries to deal with it the next day at school. I think it could have been really powerful to see how Buffy dealt with that alone, whilst the rest of her friends went about their lives as if everything was usual. I imagine it being a mixture of Fool For Love (exploration of a near death experience and slaying), The Zeppo (all from Buffy's POV and how she perceives everybody else) and one of the 'special episodes' such as Restless/The Body/OMWF (an episode very out of the ordinary). Buffy must have went through this on a pretty regular basis so I think it would have been great to show it and I think Whedon could have easily handled the material and made it a truly powerful and memorable episode. - 1- I'd deal with The Lie in S3:
Obviously, Buffy and Willow would figure out that Xander had lied after Faith, Hope and Trick. Knowing that Xander had lied would lead to Willow confronting Xander and Xander being defensive but admitting that he did it. Willow would say something that would make Xander pause and think. Eventually Xander would have a talk with Buffy, issues about Angel, betrayal, fear of the world ending and so on would be addressed. They'd end the conversation on good terms, but Buffy would be more wary of Xander when it came to Angel. She'd throw the lie in his face in Revelation. I'd also love if Angel knew... ah, the furious, sexy slashy scenes, and I wouldn't mind if Angel grabbed Xander and smacked him against the wall in a moment of anger. Anyway, the whole thing would be resolved by the end of the season and The Lie wouldn't be that big a deal that it is now.
2- Xander the role model should have more focus. Xander has a lot of faults and so many issues and we rarely see him confronting them and dealing with them "on screen". He just magically becomes good at something or learns his lesson, it should be clearer if the creator of the show created him to be a role model for young men.
3- I'd rewrite Empty Places. Xander is still at the hospital with Willow by his side, because I'm sorry, what happened on screen is too hard to believe, so it's much better if Xander and Willow stay out of it. Buffy will go to the hospital after being kicked out, but won't be able to go in and talk to them as she watches Willow crying silently while Xander sleeps. She'll get out of the hospital, feeling alone and hated without making Xander and Willow the bad guys.
Dawn will do her tough love bit -and I'd make that crystal clear - and after yelling at Rona, she'll start crying and Giles will hug her and look wistfully at the door where Buffy left. In a nutshell, I'd make both Giles and Dawn more sympathetic and show them feeling guilty and regretting what they did, even going out at night to look for Buffy and Faith catching them and ordering them to go inside, it's not safe, and she'll send them and the others to look for Buffy in the morning.

- General mythology
-Vampires and souls... Get rid of it. It was a lazy way to wave a wand and say "good vampire" or "bad vampire", but I can't think of any other mythology that used a crutch like that. Want Angel or Spike to be good vampires, just make them good. -The Slayer origin -- absolutely inexcusable and wrong-minded choice, to have Joss' female empowerment metaphor originate in a literal and figurative rape. Don't know if it was the crazy pills or the stupid pills that day, but they got into something. -Already fixed, really, but too much overuse of magic.
Buffy -Retconning Hank into a deadbeat dad. Sorry, Joss, you'll simply have to learn how to right a healthy and functional paternal relationship at some point. -Robin Wood. Everything they did with that character they could have revised and written for other characters. -I agree about Anya and Xander marrying. Jack Shaftoe - Citation :
- 1. I wouldn't have brought back Angel after Becoming.
Don't get me wrong, Revelations is one of my favourite S3 episodes and I enjoy AtS but still I think Angel's return was really cheap and silly. If Joss wanted to write more of Angel, he shouldn't have sent him to hell in the first place. Trying to have it both ways is never a sign of good writing. Or at least he should have made Angel really traumatised by this ordeal. But no, he shrugs it off in a few weeks, yet later Buffy goes to heaven and is scarred for life. Inconsistent much? Neither Buffy, nor Angel, nor anybody ever bothering to look for ways to remove the curse's loophole didn't exactly win points with me either, they were just begging for Angel to go evil again and this time kill them all.
2. Don't kill off Jenny and Kendra. Kind of self-explanatory. I would simply have loved to see more of them.
3. Don't add affable serial killers like Spike and Anya to the Scooby gang. I am all for making a series gray but playing Anya as comic relief is the opposite of doing that, it's more like turning the show into a farce where some characters exist in a special comedy zone and the rules don't apply to them. Not to mention that the whole Xanya thing was monumentally out of character for both Xander and Anya.
Honourable mention - Don't make Willow so ridiculously powerful. I think even the writers realized this was a stupid idea and they have been trying to restrain her ability to be a gamebreaker ever since S5. Of course, the ways they have tried to achieve that (cough magic crack, cough) mostly just added insult to injury, so that's one more reason I'd rather not go there at all. Kiera: - Citation :
- 1. BtVS - Different fate for Dawn in "The Gift"
I believe Nina made this point at the beginning of the thread, and I agree completely. Dawn never really "settled" into the Scoobies and even if she hadn't lived, that wouldn't change the plot(s) for the season 6 storyline because Buffy would be grieving and I'm sure Spike would be there to comfort her. Of course, he seemed to care for Dawn as well, but I'm sure there could be some workaround for that. I did like the idea of them having the same blood, but I think they could have worked that arc a bit differently, or just left it out entirely. Besides, Buffy's death was quite epic, especially for a lot of us who thought the series was gone for good. As much as I hate to say it, she probably should have stayed gone or they should have cut the series off at that point.
2. BtVS - Angel's cameo in "The Yoko Factor" I enjoyed it and it was kind of funny, but at the same time Angel really didn't have a reason to be there. Sure, he wanted to apologize I guess, but it just seemed like they brought him in just because... with really no other reason than to punch out Buffy's latest beau. Not that I'm a big Riley fan either, but that's beside the point.
3. BtVS - Bye-bye, Season 7! This season was not their best. I suppose all the drama and conflicting storylines were great, but there were a lot of times I lost the "spirit" of BtVS. It was more like a running soap opera by that point than anything and there were very few episodes to be enjoyed, IMO. Not to mention most of the potentials were annoying and the Willow/Kennedy pairing was both annoying and creepy. As much as I knid of enjoyed the dark and twisted Spuffy 'ship, I think I would have stopped the series at five seasons, ending in Dawn's death rather than Buffy's. Buffy - Citation :
- 1. I would let Anya and Xander to getting married. I almost hate Xander in episode " Hell`s Bells . He is acting like a completely jerk. And I make them to be a happy couple. May be this can makes them more boring , but still I think that the show needs of one happy couple , at least.
2. I would change Buffy say " I love you " to Spike in S 7 . The poor lad desreves already her love. In " End of Days " , when they talking in the coridor , when he asked her " Do you was there with me ? / after the night in " Touched " / She has to answere him that she was . And when he ask her " What does it mean ? " , She doesn`t has to answer " Is this has to mean something ? " . It was pretty rude. But she has to tell him, that she loves him. And in " Chosen " , when she went to him in the basement I`ll let them to make love.
3. No potentials. I will remove them. I don`t like them and IMO they were pointless. I don`t mind in S7 to be the first evil . May be Buffy will try to makes an army of the citizens of the Sunnyadale to defence the city. I also think that the ordinary people in town never were aware of the vampires and demons in there. In S 7 , instead the army of the potentials, they may to make army of the people which care about Sunnydale. And it will be the war between humans and vampires . I even may let Riley to help Buffy out in this war . I`ll let anyone but potentials. Also the Gang has to be more friendly in S 7. Gilles will be again like Giles in S 3 - like father for Buffy . / I hate that in S 7 Giles was apart and I hate that he has a fight with Buffy about Spike /.
